This week I made this little video summing up the year! I discussed my favorite project I saw in the class, my best project I created, and why AT should support DS106. Let me know what you think!

Week 14 Summary
This week I finished up my final project! I decided to do a long format interview show like 60 Minutes with ads in between different interviews. This project showcases what I have learned this semester, which is way more than I thought I would ever be able to digitally comprehend. I built off of my group radio show the last two projects and I’m happy with how it turned out.
My process was pretty simple. First, I wrote scripts for the entirety of the show and the advertisements in between the segments. Then I recorded the parts I needed to and had some AI voiceover for others since I couldn’t convince my friends to help me out.
I was hoping to create a video with the audio as well, but I ran into many difficulties putting it together and decided to spend more time making sure the audio was as good as I could make it with what I have learned this semester.
Overall, I think this represents what I have learned pretty well since I was able to incorporate AI voice recordings, Freesounds, my own recordings, Audacity, and my newly acquired audio editing skills into this final project. I feel as though I took an audio focused approach to most of the assignments in the course, but if I did it again I would probably work more on video editing so I could have included that in the final project. Unfortunately, my skills aren’t advanced enough to incorporate that aspect, but I am really proud of the work I put in to use all of my skills in this final project.
Week 13 Summary
For my final project, I will continue off of the radio show and my video last week. I want to continue with the theme of my character trying to take down and expose Aggressive Technologies. My plan is to put together a video where my character is interrogating high ranking members of Aggressive Technologies to try to expose their shady behavior. This will include multiple different interviews and be set up like a 60 Minutes type show so ads can play between interviews. This will allow me to create some fake ads from Aggressive Technologies or maybe some anti-AT ads as well.
So far I have found some sound bites and video footage that can be used in the production and I’m excited to write a script and start editing the video and audio! This is definitely going to be the most advanced editing project I have done and I will try to incorporate all the skills I have been practicing throughout the year.
Week 12 Summary
This week we did three daily creates which can be found on my Mastodon here. I always like the poetry prompts since it is not something I do often, but this week we wrote a nonet, which I enjoyed trying! One of the prompts was also coming up with hypothetical alternative quotes from books, but the example they used was from The Great Gatsby, so I felt like I couldn’t use that book unfortunately. The symbolism in that book is incredible and it’s one of my favorite books, so that was slightly disappointing.
We also made our videos this week! This is what I came up with, which I think is pretty in line with my video plan from last week. Video editing is not my strength, so this took some time to figure out, but I love the idea of a silhouette interview. I decided to make this a follow up to my group’s radio show since it was a great starting point for a video with someone (sort of) talking about something. I looked back through our script to decide what to include and decided on some talking points which you can see here! Adding some eerie audio to the background also brings a sense of post-apocalypse and shady things going on which is what I was trying to portray. Let me know what you think of the video!
Week 11 Summary
This week I listened to one of the other group’s radio shows and reflected on it here. Finding the similarities between my groups radio show and the Logic Pod was fun since we had different ideas, but similar ominous vibes.
I also planned my video assignment due next week and I’m excited to start video editing. I have never done an assignment like this before, so I can’t wait to give it a go!
Video Plan
My video plan will build off of my radio show. I want to find a video of one of the shadowy, ominous figures that usually has the deep voiceover, but make it my character discussing things about Aggressive Technology.
On the radio show, my character was interviewing and trying to expose AT employees, so I will do more of a deep dive into the points brought up by the employees. My character will spend time discussing in depth certain points like:
- The use of surveillance technology in public
- Carter, who has been jailed for several years and claims to be set up by AT
- The true depth of AT’s data
- AT’s lobbying effort
- How “safe” everyone’s data is
- The “enlightened council”
- The 100% accuracy of identification technology
- Bank account information being stolen
- The “Aggressor family”
- How AT technology improves peoples lives
- The “transparency” of AT
I’m excited to fully write the script and get to editing the video for it! Hopefully, I can discuss with my group and see if they have any ideas for other things I can talk about too!
Radio Show Listening Experience
I listened to Logic Pod this week. I loved the different voices used – especially the host. The quieter voice also added a sense of eeriness to the podcast, which added to the ominous aspect of AI. It was almost a whisper which makes it seem like maybe he shouldn’t be talking about what he was…
The idea for this radio show was super cool and I would love to see what my character would have said to try to rebut what was said on the podcast. My character has a starkly different view on AI and what its role should be moving forward.
The idea of AI sovereignty is a scary, dystopian idea, but I loved how they discussed it on the podcast! I like how Kevin was trying to shift the focus of AI from weapons to helping people but the host seemed to keep pushing for the weaponization/ aggression of AI.
The bumpers and commercials in between were placed well and fit very well into the flow of the podcast. The audio in the ads was also similar to what was in my commercial/ bumper, which I thought was interesting since we landed on related vibes for the ads and commercials despite different angles on AI.
Week 10 Summary
This week, the main task was to complete the radio show project. You can check mine out here. We took the time this week to finalize and record our lines for the show. After splicing it all together with our bumpers and commercials, we got it all finished up!
I also discussed the radio show a bit more in this article.
I completed 2 daily creates, which can be found here. For the first one, I changed the title of “To Kill a Mockingbird” to make it much less culturally significant. I’m sure many middle school classes would not read “To Bill a Mockingbird”. For the next one, I discussed my least favorite chore of taking the trash out and described how I play a game of PIG with myself and try to make the trash into the trash can from far away.
I’m very happy with the outcome of our radio show and thankful for the effort my groupmates put in! Hopefully that effort shines through in the final product!
Radio Show Week 2
We have completed our radio show! This week we finalized the script and format of the show and each recorded our parts. We added our commercials radio bumpers into the final project as the finishing touches.
This was a smooth process thanks to my wonderful groupmates, Feli Badji and Sydney Krug. I’m proud of the final project and would love to hear y’alls thoughts if you can give it a listen.
Radio Show Progress
So far, we’ve decided on the format/ theme of the show and how we can split up the work. We’re going to do an interview style radio show where my character is asking the other characters questions.
We have been emailing and we have a document where we can add the questions that we think would be good to ask, which we aim to get done early next week to give us plenty of time to record.
